Bernese Mountain Dog

The Bernese Mountain Dog has a muscular, strong build. Its black coat is long, smooth and shiny with white and brown markings. The head is distinctive and has a friendly expression, also thanks to the dark eyes and floppy ears.

Bernese Mountain Dogs are calm, friendly and loyal dogs that make good family pets. They are intelligent and learn quickly, but require consistent training, sufficient space and exercise. The breed is also known for its sociability. Bernese Mountain Dogs are therefore good with other pets and children. They are very alert and bark when strangers approach, but do not attack them, instead greeting them in a friendly manner.

Bernese Mountain Dogs were originally bred to guard the house and farm. Thanks to their strong build, they could also be used to pull carts and transport goods such as milk churns and wheels of cheese.
