Kangal

The Kangal is a herding dog from Turkey, often referred to as the Turkish Kangal or Kangal Shepherd Dog. This breed is known for its imposing and majestic appearance.
Kangals have a dense, short coat in the colors dun (light to medium sandy yellow) or sable (darker reddish brown to dark brown). The face is always dark in color and grooming the short coat is comparatively easy: regular brushing is usually sufficient. Their ears are small and triangular. The Kangal’s tail is long and hangs down when at rest, but is raised when alert.
Kangals are characterized by their alertness, intelligence and loyalty. They are traditional guard dogs and protect livestock herds from predators such as wolves. Despite their calm and placid nature, they are very territorial and excellent guard dogs. They show a lot of love and protective instinct towards their family.
Kangals are very intelligent and therefore understand their tasks very quickly, although they can also be stubborn. Respectful, consistent and positive training is therefore important to get the best out of this breed.
It should be emphasized that due to its size, strength and alertness, the Kangal should be cared for by experienced dog owners who understand the needs of this breed. Consistent training and sufficient exercise are essential for the well-being of a Kangal. Only if they are well socialized will they be social and friendly towards other animals and people.
