A wolfdog is a cross between a wolf and a dog. Wolfdogs can have different proportions of wolf and dog genes, which influences their size, appearance and behavior.
The best-known wolfhounds include:
Czechoslovakian wolfhound (cross between German shepherd and Carpathian wolf)
Saarloo wolfhound (cross between German shepherd dog and Siberian wolf)
Tamaskan (crossbreed of various sled dogs (mainly Siberian Husky and Samoyed) and German Shepherd, no wolf part)
Wolfdogs can be very large and often have a wolf-like appearance with a thick coat, pointed ears and a striking posture. They also have the natural instincts of a wolf, including a strong hunting instinct and a strong territorial tendency. Wolfdogs have high energy levels and need plenty of exercise and activity to stay happy and healthy.
Keeping a wolfhound requires a lot of experience and commitment. These animals are very demanding and require extensive socialization and training. Wolfdogs are not suitable for inexperienced or unprepared owners, as they are often difficult to handle and can be potentially dangerous if not kept properly.
